Banu Subramaniam is the Luella LaMer Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at Wellesley College. An interdisciplinary scholar trained as an evolutionary biologist and plant scientist, she bridges the natural sciences with humanities and social sciences to advance Feminist Science and Technology Studies. Her research interrogates the intersections of gender, race, ethnicity, and caste within the philosophy, history, and culture of science and medicine.

Her work critically examines colonial and postcolonial legacies in botany, focusing on the migration of scientific theories and the relationship between science and Hindu Nationalism in India. She also explores decolonial approaches to plant sciences and xenophobia in scientific narratives.
Recent publications highlight her contributions to the vegetal turn in humanities, critiques of scientific biopolitics, and ethical debates on genome editing. Her research spans environmental justice, anti-colonial science frameworks, and feminist pedagogies.
