Balint Sztaray

Balint Sztaray is a Professor at the Department of Chemistry, College of the Pacific, University of the Pacific. His work focuses on advanced spectroscopic techniques and thermochemical analysis of small molecules.

Research Interests:
Balint leads a research group specializing in Photoelectron Photoion Coincidence Spectroscopy (PEPICO), enabling high-precision thermochemistry for organic, inorganic, and organometallic molecules. His team utilizes the Swiss Light Source synchrotron to determine bond energies, dissociation rates, and thermochemical data for radicals via the positive ion cycle. Recent innovations include a laser-photolysis flow-tube PEPICO setup, enhancing isomer separation and selectivity through tunable synchrotron light and spectral fingerprinting.

Teaching Philosophy:
Emphasizing his family legacy in education, Balint prioritizes undergraduate teaching and research mentorship. He advocates for curriculum accessibility across diverse student backgrounds while challenging top students to explore beyond coursework.
