Dr. Balbinder Deo is an Associate Professor in the School of Business at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), Prince George campus, where he has been a faculty member since 2002. He holds dual PhDs in Industrial Engineering from the University of Manitoba and in Business Management from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India, along with an MBA from HP University Simla and an MSc from GNDU Amritsar.

Dr. Deo's research focuses on operational efficiency, cost modeling, and sustainability. His primary research areas include Operations-Based Costing (OBC), Activity-Based Costing (ABC), retail shrinkage reduction, green operations, materials flow analysis, and biofuels for northern communities. He has extensive experience working with industrial organizations such as Inco Limited, NewHolland Canada, and Punjab Markfed, which has informed his applied research in manufacturing and service sectors.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward sustainability and operational innovation, particularly in the areas of wood-based biofuels, carbon credits on private lands, and process costing in healthcare and non-profit organizations. The integration of technology, human resources, and systems thinking is a recurring theme, especially in retail and energy applications.
Dr. Deo has served on multiple university committees including the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Business (SCUB), the Academic Standards Committee (ASC) for the School of Business, and as Treasurer of the Faculty Association. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses such as Operations Management, Management Science, and Total Quality Management.
He supervises graduate students in PhD, MBA, and MSc programs and has collaborated with researchers like Neufeld, Bhullar, Sra, and others. His work bridges academia and industry, with over 45 peer-reviewed publications and 9 applied research reports submitted to industrial organizations.
