Bakshi Sandeep is an Associate Professor at University Paris Cité, affiliated with the Faculty of Anglophone Studies. His research focuses on decolonial and postcolonial studies, queer theory, and South Asian diasporas. He leads the Gender and Sexuality Studies research group at LARCA and co-founded the Decolonizing Sexualities Network. His current project, funded by the France-Berkeley Fund (2022-2023), explores Transnational Archiving of Sexualities.
Education includes a PhD from the University of Leicester (2011) titled Back/Side Entry: Queer and Postcolonial Representations of South Asia, followed by postdoctoral work there and teaching roles at University of Le Havre and University Paris 8 before joining University Paris Cité in 2018. He served as a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh’s Institute for the Advanced Studies in the Humanities (2022).
Administrative roles include coordinating the Pôle Société Civile at Cité du Genre and serving on editorial boards for journals like Quarterly Journal of Speech. He actively advocates for disability/accessibility initiatives and participates in governance councils at the Faculty level.
Research interests emphasize queer of color critique, decolonial pedagogies, and transnational queer practices. Recent work interrogates Eurocentric queer frameworks through decolonial lenses, with publications in Interventions, Routledge Handbooks, and edited volumes on decolonizing sexualities.
