Bahiyyah Muhammad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology & Criminology at Howard University's College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University’s School of Criminal Justice and has extensive experience in interdisciplinary social justice initiatives. Her research focuses on the lived experiences of children of incarcerated parents, combining ethnographic methods with community-driven advocacy.

Her work challenges deficit-based narratives by showcasing resilience in marginalized communities. She co-founded the College Bound Consortium, teaches in prison facilities, and serves as Co-PI for the Social Justice Consortium. Muhammad is a CETLA Fellow and Honors Faculty Fellow, emphasizing innovative pedagogical approaches.
Recent publications highlight the success trajectories of children affected by incarceration, redefining societal perceptions. She actively engages in public discourse through TEDx Talks and media appearances, advocating for systemic change in criminal justice policies.
