Prof. Dr. Bahattin YALÇIN is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences, Marmara University, Istanbul. Having joined the institution in 1991 as a research assistant, he progressed through academic ranks to achieve full Professorship in 2015, maintaining continuous service for over three decades.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Marmara University (1999)

- B.Sc. in Chemistry, Istanbul University Faculty of Engineering (1991)
Research Focus: His scholarly work centers on Inorganic Chemistry with specialized contributions to Environmental Chemistry and Marine Chemistry. Notably, he serves as Chemistry Manager for the Marmara Sea Oceanographic Monitoring Project since 2009, analyzing changing marine conditions through chemical methodologies. His publication record includes 148 Web of Science-indexed articles with significant citation metrics.
Professional Leadership: As President of the Turkish Chemical Society since 2016 (previously Vice President 2012-2014 and Board Member 2010-2012), he directs national chemical research policy. He also served on boards of the Center for Applied Research on Natural Plants/Aquatic Products (2009) and Environmental Problems Research Center (2010).
Academic Contributions: Having advised 17 theses and participated in 4 major research projects, his work bridges fundamental inorganic chemistry with critical environmental applications. Current activities include ongoing marine monitoring initiatives and leadership in national chemical research organizations.
