Azam Noori is an Associate Professor of Biology and the Laurence M. Demers Professor in Life Sciences (2024-2026) at Merrimack College. He holds a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from Tarbiat Modares University, an M.Sc. in Plant Ecology from Shahid Bahonar University, and a B.Sc. in Biology from Azad University.
His research focuses on phytoremediation and natural medicines, particularly investigating plant responses to environmental contaminants like PFAS, nanomaterials, and heavy metals, as well as the anti-cancer potential of plant metabolites. He has led studies on silver nanoparticle toxicity, tomato phytoremediation efficacy, and medicinal plant extracts' roles in enhancing soil remediation.
Dr. Noori has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles, including work on zinc oxide nanoparticles' effects on tomato shelf life and mechanisms of Cd tolerance in poplar. He has presented at international conferences such as the International Phytotechnologies Conference and ASPB meetings.
His awards include the Zampell Family Fellowship (2019) and multiple SCURCA Fellowships. He directs the Mendel Greenhouse and has secured grants including the Catalyst Fund (2021) and Davis Educational Foundation Grant (2019).
