Ayşe Banu DEMİR

Ayşe Banu DEMİR, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Izmir University of Economics. She has held administrative roles including Deputy Director of Postgraduate Education Institute since 2023 and coordinates multidisciplinary wet laboratory activities since 2019.

Her research focuses on Molecular Biology of Cellular Aging and Cancer Drug Resistance Mechanisms, with particular interest in Toll-like Receptor signaling in hepatocellular carcinoma and oxidative stress in aging. She contributes to both basic science and translational research in pediatric oncology and medical education.

Recent publications show emphasis on biochemistry of cancer progression (2023-2024) and multi-disciplinary medical education approaches. Her work spans from yeast models of drug resistance (2015) to phylogenetic analysis of SARS-CoV-2 mutations (2020).

She led a TUBITAK-funded project (2020-21) on doxorubicin resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma and coordinates the "Research and Information Management" program at Izmir University of Economics. Her teaching includes "Scientific Thinking" and "Cell Biology Foundations" across all medical education levels (2017-present).
