Dr. Ayça Uçar is a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Reading and a lecturer at Özyeğin University since 2018. Her expertise spans Maritime Law, Insurance Law, International Trade Law, and International Transport Law. She holds an LLM from Southampton University (2010) and a PhD from Exeter University (2018). Her research focuses on legal challenges in autonomous shipping, pandemic impacts on maritime contracts, and carrier liabilities in cruise ship operations. She authored Perils of the Sea and Inherent Vice in Marine Insurance Law (Routledge, 2020), awarded the BILA Best Written Book Prize (2021). Her work bridges legal theory and practice, informed by over a decade in multinational shipping and insurance sectors in Turkey and the UK.
- Professional Experience: Legal Claim Consultant at C Solution Ltd (2010), In-House Lawyer at TURKON Container Shipping (2010–2012), Country Manager at Certasig Insurance & Reinsurance SA (2012–2014).
- Research Projects: Legal assessment of seaworthiness in autonomous cargo ships, post-COVID-19 charterparty obligations, and liability frameworks in cruise ship operations.
Her publications address emerging issues in maritime law, including technology-driven legal challenges and pandemic-related contractual disputes. She contributes to scholarly debates on carrier obligations under the Hague-Visby Rules and insurance law developments in England.
