Dr. Aysel Alkan Uçkun is an Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Adıyaman University, Turkey. She holds a PhD in Biology from İnönü University and has been a faculty member since July 2012. She became an Associate Professor in January 2022. Her research focuses on environmental micropollutants, metal biosorption using transgenic bacteria, pesticide degradation mechanisms, and aquatic toxicology. She has led several projects on water quality assessment, metal pollution monitoring in Atatürk Dam Lake, and bioremediation strategies.
Her academic career includes roles as Deputy Director of the Central Research Laboratory at Adıyaman University (2012–2019) and extensive teaching in environmental microbiology, ecotoxicology, and water quality management. She has authored over 24 peer-reviewed articles, with contributions to journals like Environmental Science and Pollution Research and World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges, particularly in bioremediation and aquatic ecosystem health.
Professional interests span:
- Biosorption of heavy metals using genetically engineered bacteria
- Pesticide toxicity in freshwater organisms
- Lake ecosystem monitoring
- Biotechnology applications in environmental engineering
Recent research highlights include studies on imidacloprid neurotoxicity in crayfish, laccase-based pesticide degradation membranes, and lead biosorption using recombinant bacteria. She actively participates in international conferences, contributing to fields like ecotoxicology and microbial biotechnology.
