Prof. Ayse K. Uskul is a Professor of Social and Cultural Psychology at the University of Sussex's School of Psychology, and Co-Director of the Centre for Research on Cultural and Societal Diversity. Her academic journey includes degrees from Bogazici University, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and York University, followed by a SSHRC-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan. Prior roles included positions at the University of Essex, Queen’s University Belfast, and the University of Kent.
Her research focuses on socio-ecological influences on self-concept, honor culture dynamics, and cultural impacts on health behavior change. Key grants include an ERC Consolidator Grant (2019-2026) for studying honor’s role in social interactions. She is a Fellow of major psychological societies and received the 2023 European Association of Social Psychology Mid-Career Award and the SPSP Diversity Award.
Editorial roles include Co-Chief Editor of the European Review of Social Psychology (2023-2027) and past roles at Psychological Science and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Her work spans over 116 publications, emphasizing cross-cultural methodologies and global psychological research equity. Current research explores honor’s role in sextortion perceptions, apology dynamics, and Mediterranean cultural logics.
