Ayse Cicek Unal is a Visiting Professor in the Department of History at Yale University. Her doctoral research focuses on 17th-century Ottoman North Africa and the early modern Mediterranean, emphasizing cultural and commercial exchanges between Europe and Ottoman Regencies (Algiers, Tunis, and Tripoli). She holds an MA from Istanbul Şehir University, where her thesis examined Ottoman-Spanish diplomatic relations in the 18th century.
Her research has been supported by institutions including the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), the Cervantes Institute, the European Union Lifelong Learning Program, the Turkish Cultural Foundation, and Istanbul Şehir University. Prior to Yale, she worked as a manuscript archivist and curator at the Süleymaniye Manuscript Library in Istanbul, one of the world's most significant Islamic manuscript repositories.
