Ayla Mongès is a Postdoctoral Fellow and Functional Ecology Researcher at Lund University's Department of Biology, affiliated with the BECC (Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate) research center.
Her research centers on fungal ecological dynamics, with core expertise in:
- Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi behavior and symbiotic decision-making
- Nutrient foraging mechanisms in plant-fungi systems
- Soil chip technology applications for symbiosis studies
- Plant-fungi interaction networks in changing climates
She currently contributes to two major funded projects: "How does foraging for nutrients work in symbiotic systems?" (Stiftelsen Ove Almborns donationsfond, 2025-2026) examining nutrient allocation hierarchies, and "Exploring fungal decision making and agency in symbiotic interactions" (V. Kann Rasmussen foundation, 2024-2027) investigating fungal autonomy in symbiosis. Her recent academic engagement includes presenting at the 2024 Mycology Nordics conference.
