Ayan Yasin is a PhD-fellow and part-time lecturer at Roskilde University's Department of Communication and Arts, affiliated with the Intercultural Studies Centre and the Centre for Gender, Power and Diversity. He holds external roles as a consultant for Cphfacilitation and has received notable awards including the Fulbright Scholarship and Carlsberg Internationalisation Fellowship. His research focuses on migration studies with a decolonial lens, examining Somali diasporas, citizenship dynamics, and hypermobility across Europe, Turkey, and the Middle East. Yasin combines ethnographic methods with theoretical frameworks to challenge Western-centric migration narratives.
Teaching and research supervision span global humanities, migration, and cultural analysis. He has delivered guest lectures on Hollywood's historical distortions and is engaged in public dissemination through Danish media and podcasts. Recent academic activities include visiting research fellowships at the University of Minnesota and the Migration Institute of Finland, with upcoming residencies at Malmö University and Utrecht University. His work addresses forced returns, legal challenges faced by deportees, and the intersection of crime and citizenship in Nordic countries.
