Axel Hochkirch is a Professor for Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of Trier, Germany, where he has been affiliated with the Department of Biogeography since March 2008. Since February 2023, he has also served as Curator for Ecology at the National Museum of Natural History in Luxembourg. His academic journey includes obtaining his PhD from the University of Bremen in 2001 with a thesis on East African grasshoppers, followed by an Assistant Professorship at the University of Osnabrück from 2001-2007. He was distinguished as an Associate Professor in June 2017 and completed his Habilitation in Biogeography in February 2009.
Dr. Hochkirch's research expertise spans the full spectrum of biodiversity science, from evolutionary origins through mechanisms of biodiversity maintenance to practical conservation applications. His work integrates field ecology, molecular techniques, and conservation planning to address pressing biodiversity challenges.
