Avra Karaphilis is a Teaching Professor at the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering, University of the Aegean, where she has been teaching English for Special and Academic Purposes (ESP/EAP) since 2001. She was elected as a Faculty Member for Special Courses (E.E.P.) in 2006. She also serves as an oral examiner for Cambridge language certificates (FCE, CAE, CPE) since 2000 and the State Exam (KPG) since 2005.

Her research focuses on psycholinguistics, language acquisition mechanisms, literacy testing, and knowledge assessment. Her publications explore teacher development, child language effectiveness, and applications of personality theories in education. She has extensive experience in curriculum design and language course organization, including running her own School of Foreign Languages in Athens (1993-1998) and volunteering with the Athens College Forensics Club.
She has contributed to educational evaluation through membership in thesis evaluation committees at the National Centre for Public Administration & Local Government.
