Chryssanthi Avlami is an Assistant Professor of Contemporary History at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens and a member of the Research Centre ANHIMA in Paris. She holds a BA in History and Archaeology from the University of Thessaloniki, and an MSc and PhD from the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS). Her research focuses on the cultural transfer of classical antiquity in 18th-19th century Europe, Enlightenment historiography, and education history. She has coordinated the European Research Program 'Bibliotheca Academica Translationum,' examining the circulation of knowledge on Greco-Roman antiquity in Europe. Avlami has held prestigious fellowships including the Onassis, Marie Curie, and Fritz Thyssen Fellowships, and has conducted research at institutions like Oxford University and the CNRS in France.
Her academic contributions span historiography of antiquity, cross-cultural exchanges, and the political dimensions of historical writing. Notable works include studies on Enlightenment influences in Greek textbooks and the contested legacy of classical models in modern nation-building. She actively participates in academic networks like the CID-CCS Lab at Panteion University, focusing on cultural informatics and computational methodologies.
