Avishek Das is a Postdoctoral Researcher at AMOLF in the Biochemical Networks group. He investigates nonequilibrium self-organization in living and autonomous systems, focusing on bacterial chemotaxis and information processing in noisy environments. His work integrates reinforcement learning and optimal control strategies to model rare dynamical events in nonequilibrium systems.
Prior to AMOLF, he completed his PhD under Prof. David Limmer at UC Berkeley, developing novel numerical methods for sampling rare fluctuations in nonequilibrium systems. He co-founded a mathematics bootcamp for chemistry PhD students, underscoring his commitment to interdisciplinary education.
His research bridges statistical mechanics, materials science, and biophysics. Key themes include colloidal self-assembly, active matter, and algorithmic design for nonequilibrium processes. His publications span topics from nanocrystal superlattices to variational path sampling techniques.
Current projects explore how information flow constrains bacterial performance in nutrient gradients, applying autonomous machine frameworks to biological systems.
