Aurora Fredriksen is a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography, specializing in the intersection of ordinary life and planetary environmental crises, particularly through wildlife geographies and the Anthropocene. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Columbia University and joined her department as a Simon Research Fellow in 2016 before becoming a Lecturer in 2018.
Her teaching focuses on cultural and environmental geography, including courses like Wildlife in the Anthropocene and Decolonising Geographies. She supervises numerous PhD students exploring topics ranging from eco-fascism to urban infrastructure governance. Her research interests include feminist science studies, ecological crises, and the valuation of nature.
Aurora’s work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and environmental sustainability. She collaborates globally on projects such as risk communication in volcanic regions and posthuman ethics. Recent publications address themes like anthropogenic planetary crisis, co-produced risk knowledge, and marine ecologies.
Her academic activities include contributing to the UKRI Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy Consultation. She emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to understanding human-environment interactions, bridging sociology, geography, and environmental science.
