Audrey Yoon, DDS, is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Sleep Medicine within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. She practices at Stanford Health Care and holds affiliations with the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center, the University of the Pacific (as Program Director of the Dental Sleep Medicine Fellowship), and professional societies such as the World Dentofacial Sleep Society (founding co-president) and the California Sleep Society. Her clinical focus spans orthodontic and surgical interventions for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), including rapid palatal expansion (RPE), miniscrew-assisted RPE (MARPE), distraction osteogenesis maxillary expansion (DOME), and maxillomandibular advancement (MMA).
- Doctor of Dental Surgery, UCLA School of Dentistry (2004)
- Doctor of Dental Surgery, Seoul National University (2000)
- MS, Oral Biology, UCLA (2008)
- Board Certification, American Board of Orthodontics (2020)
- Board Certification, American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (2020)
Dr. Yoon's research bridges orthodontics and sleep medicine, emphasizing craniofacial growth modification to alleviate sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in children and adults. She pioneered a surgery-first MMA protocol and co-developed DOME techniques, integrating 3D imaging to assess nasal airway changes. Her work highlights the role of orthodontic appliances in reshaping oral and nasal structures, reducing OSA severity, and improving sleep quality. She has extensively studied genetic and anatomical factors linking ankyloglossia to maxillary hypoplasia and SDB, validating functional metrics like tongue range of motion ratio (TRMR).
Her publications reveal trends in craniofacial surgery, pediatric airway management, and orthodontic interventions for OSA. She advocates for interdisciplinary care models to address SDB, emphasizing collaboration between dental and medical professionals. Recent studies explore long-term adherence to mandibular advancement appliances and post-treatment outcomes via polysomnography and CT imaging.
