معرفی
Audrey Girouard is a Professor in the School of Information Technology and the Associate Dean Research for the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University. She leads the Creative Interactions Lab, a multidisciplinary research team pioneering human-computer interaction through tangible devices and wearable technologies with a strong emphasis on accessibility. Her work centers on co-designing with people with disabilities to develop novel input-capable devices and evaluate their real-world applications.
Her research spans deformable user interactions, flexible display interfaces, and accessibility-focused rehabilitation technologies. She investigates how material properties like thinness and flexibility in next-generation displays can enable new interaction paradigms beyond conventional touchscreens. Her lab actively explores tangible user interactions and wearable systems to enhance user experience for diverse populations, particularly through co-creation methodologies with disabled communities.
Awards
- CS-Can|Info-Can Outstanding Early-Career Computer Science Researcher Award
- Carleton Outstanding Faculty Graduate Mentor Award
As an investigator in the Research and Education in Accessibility, Design, and Innovation (READi) training program, Dr. Girouard secures significant research funding while mentoring graduate students—recognized by her mentorship award. Her academic leadership extends to program committees for ACM TEI (serving as Steering Committee Member since 2012, PC Co-Chair in 2018), ACM UIST, ACM CHI, and Graphics Interface conferences.
The Creative Interactions Lab develops innovative projects including Wearable Bits, Bend Passwords for People with Vision Impairment, and deformable interface prototypes. Current work focuses on flexible displays and deformable materials to create complementary interaction techniques for emerging display technologies entering consumer markets.
