Audrey Bochaton is a Lecturer-researcher at Paris Nanterre University, where she serves as co-director of the Department of Geography and Planning and is responsible for the undergraduate geography program. She is affiliated with the Social Dynamics and Space Recomposition Laboratory (LADYSS) and the Space, Health and Territory Laboratory. Her work bridges geography, public health, and social sciences with a focus on health inequalities and therapeutic mobility.
Her research interests encompass social and territorial inequalities in health, care pathways and therapeutic mobility, international circulation of medicinal plants and medicines, and active mobility with a focus on cycling and health. She examines these issues across multiple geographical contexts, primarily in France (particularly Île-de-France region) and Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand, Cambodia).
Bochaton leads and participates in numerous research projects addressing critical health issues. Her current work includes the SENOVIE project (2023-2026) on therapeutic mobility and breast cancer, which examines how women navigate healthcare systems across borders in France, West Africa, and Southeast Asia. She also directs the "Picking in the City" project studying migrant Chinese populations' plant gathering practices in urban Paris, and the MAMA project investigating cycling, health, and territories in the post-pandemic context.
She has received funding from prestigious organizations including the National Cancer Institute (INCa), Doctors Without Borders (MSF), French Embassy in Cambodia, and various research institutes. Her collaborative approach involves working closely with researchers, healthcare providers, and women's associations to co-construct knowledge and address health inequalities.
Bochaton actively contributes to academic discourse as a member of editorial boards for the Revue Nature Sciences Société and the Revue Francophone sur la Santé et les Territoires. She has organized numerous conferences and seminars focusing on health geography, therapeutic mobility, and plant-based knowledge systems.
As an educator, she teaches across undergraduate and graduate geography programs at Paris Nanterre University, with courses on health geography, qualitative research methods, and geographic information systems. She has supervised numerous Master's students and currently co-directs two doctoral theses examining therapeutic mobility and ethnobotanical knowledge.
