Atiya Avery serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Analytics and Information Systems at Auburn University, a position she assumed in 2021 after previously holding faculty appointments at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Dr. Avery earned her PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow within the Electronic Security and Privacy (ESP) IGERT program.
Her research program critically examines IT infrastructure governance frameworks, strategies for mitigating and recovering from cybersecurity breaches, digital surveillance mechanisms, and evolving workplace dynamics in technology-driven environments. These investigations have been disseminated through presentations at regional, national, and international academic conferences.
As an engaged cybersecurity scholar, Dr. Avery co-founded the national Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) chapter and maintains active affiliations with the Association for Information Systems (AIS), ISACA, and (ISC)². Her technical expertise is certified through the CISSP, Security+, and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) credentials.
