Dr. Atheer Awad is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutics at the University of Hertfordshire, affiliated with the School of Life and Medical Sciences and the Centre for Research into Topical Drug Delivery and Toxicology. She holds a BSc in Pharmacy from Applied Science Private University (2015), an MSc in Pharmaceutics from UCL School of Pharmacy (2016), and a PhD in Pharmaceutics from UCL (2021), focusing on 3D-printed drug formulations for special patient groups. Her research integrates digital health technologies like 3D/4D printing and site-specific drug delivery to advance personalized medicine. She holds prestigious awards such as Forbes 30 Under 30 and MIT Innovator Under 35. Her work emphasizes transformative applications, including anti-counterfeit measures, decentralized drug production, and smart biosensors for drug monitoring. Dr. Awad collaborates internationally, notably through the INTERREG 2 Seas programme and as a Visiting Scientist at UCL.
Her research interests span 3D printing in pharmaceuticals, drug delivery systems, and medical device innovation. Notable projects include semi-automated drug formulation pipelines, smartphone-enabled biosensors, and nanoparticle-based therapies for inflammatory bowel disease. Her contributions also address pediatric metabolic disorders via 3D-printed dietary products and clinical translation of 3D-printed medicines. Dr. Awad advocates for precision medicine and equitable healthcare access through decentralized manufacturing and smart technologies.
