Athar Abdul-Quader is an Associate Professor of Mathematics/Computer Science at Purchase College, part of the State University of New York (SUNY). He holds a BA from Columbia University and a PhD from The Graduate Center, CUNY. His research focuses on mathematical logic, particularly model theory and Peano Arithmetic, exploring topics like definability, satisfaction classes, and non-standard models. He previously worked as a software engineer at Morgan Stanley and Google before transitioning to academia, teaching at colleges such as Bronx Community College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Key research interests include the model theory of arithmetic, ultrafilters, Ramsey quantifiers, and the interplay between logic and computability. He has presented at conferences like the ASL Winter Meeting and AMS Sectional Meetings, contributing to discussions on Enayat models and interstructure lattices. His work bridges foundational mathematics with philosophical and computational aspects of logic.
Abdul-Quader is actively involved in academic outreach, including speaking at math tournaments and maintaining a research blog that explains complex topics like Ramsey’s Theorem and Tarski’s Undefinability Theorem. His office is located in Natural Sciences 3003, with regular office hours for students.
