Atakan Aral

Atakan Aral serves as an Assistant Professor of Distributed Systems at the Department of Computing Science, Umeå University, Sweden, and holds a Principal Investigator position at the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Vienna, Austria.

His research centers on resource and reliability management for Edge Computing, Edge AI, and Internet of Things systems, addressing critical challenges in deploying intelligent infrastructure at network edges. This work bridges theoretical distributed systems with real-world environmental applications.

He led the EU-funded SWAIN project (Sustainable Watershed AI Network) as international coordinator, developing AI-driven solutions for sustainable environmental monitoring in watershed ecosystems through edge computing technologies.
