Professor Astrid Schütz holds the Chair of Personality Psychology and Psychological Diagnostics at the Faculty of Human Sciences, University of Bamberg, where she also directs the Competence Center for Applied Personnel Psychology (KAP). She previously served as Vice President of the University of Bamberg (2012-2015) with responsibility for research and early career development, and was a member of the EU Research Commission of the German Rectors' Conference (2014-2020). Her extensive academic leadership includes founding dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Chemnitz University of Technology (2009-2011) and spokesperson for the DFG Research Group 'New Media in Everyday Life' (2002-2006).
Her research focuses on personality in social relationships, with particular emphasis on self-esteem dynamics, narcissism, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal interactions. She has developed tools for personality assessment and emotional competence training that have practical applications in educational and organizational settings. Her work bridges theoretical personality psychology with applied contexts, particularly in personnel selection and development.
Professor Schütz serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Individual Differences and Frontiers in Psychology (Organizational Psychology section), and is on the Editorial Board of Self and Identity. Her international research collaborations span institutions including the University of Southampton, University of Virginia, and SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Poznan. She is particularly active in open science initiatives and has contributed to large-scale replication projects.

She also co-leads the Smart City Research Lab and serves as University Equality Commissioner in Science.
