Asreen Rostami

Asreen Rostami is a Postdoctoral fellow at Stockholm University's Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV), Faculty of Social Sciences. She is affiliated with the Stockholm Technology & Interaction Research (STIR) group, which brings together technologists and social scientists to research and build new digital technologies within the Human-Computer Interaction field.

Her research focuses on the intersection of technology and human experience, with particular expertise in Mixed-Reality Performances and interactive technologies design. She completed her doctoral thesis 'Interweaving Technology' in 2020, which investigated how creative teams and artists incorporate interactive technologies into artistic productions through four empirical studies.

Her current research is centered around Security of IoT devices as part of the 'Securing Things' project at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, where she joined in 2020 through an ERCIM postdoctoral fellowship. She explores immersive performance and performers' interaction with technologies including VR, IoT, Bio-Data, and mobile interfaces.

Her work demonstrates significant contributions to understanding audience immersion in mixed-reality performances through the concept of 'friction' as a Strong Concept for analyzing interactions and discussing immersion experiences.

As a researcher, she has investigated sensor-based and bodily tracking technologies in interactive performances, how professional guitar players experience smart instruments, audience immersion in mixed-reality performances, and using friction as a design resource in VR performance scenarios. Her methodological approaches include Research through Design (RtD) and performance-led research in the wild.

She is an active member of the STIR research group, contributing to interdisciplinary work that bridges technological innovation with social science perspectives on human interaction with digital systems.
