Ashton T. Hamme II is a Professor and Interim Chair in the Department of Chemistry, Physics, and Atmospheric Sciences at Jackson State University. His research focuses on synthesizing biologically active heterocyclic compounds using innovative methods like 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions. Notably, his group explores green chemistry approaches by employing pure water as a reaction medium. He teaches advanced organic chemistry courses including Organic Chemistry I & II and Advanced Organic Synthesis.
Research activities emphasize the development of synthetic pathways for natural product analogs, with publications in journals like Tetrahedron Letters and Synlett. His work bridges organic synthesis with potential medicinal applications, particularly in drug design and pharmacological evaluation. The Hamme Research Group has contributed to methodologies for spirocompounds, isoxazoles, and pyrazoles, demonstrating expertise in both traditional and environmentally friendly synthetic techniques.
