Ashley Thompson, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sport Management at Brock University. Her research focuses on governance, strategy, and organizational change within nonprofit sport organizations. She teaches courses in strategic management and sport event management, emphasizing practical skills for industry success. Prior to academia, she served as Vice-President of the Ottawa Valley Golf Association, demonstrating leadership in sport governance. Dr. Thompson is affiliated with the North American Society for Sport Management and the European Association for Sport Management, among others.
Her research explores how governance structures and digital transformation impact nonprofit sport organizations' effectiveness. Key themes include stakeholder engagement in radical change, board decision-making processes, and volunteer retention strategies. She actively collaborates with sport organizations to apply her findings to real-world challenges.
Dr. Thompson accepts master’s students researching governance, strategy, or organizational change in nonprofit sport. Undergraduate students may also pursue research opportunities under her guidance. She is a member of the Centre for Sport Capacity at Brock University.
