Ashley Parish

Ashley Parish is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), within the School of Health Professions. She holds dual appointments as an Associate Scientist at the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and maintains clinical practice in pediatric cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy. Her research focuses on disability awareness in healthcare education, simulation-based training, and pediatric cardiopulmonary care.

Education: B.S. in Respiratory Therapy (UAB, 2008), DPT (UAB, 2013), PhD in Health Behavior (UAB, 2024). Certified as a Cardiovascular/Pulmonary Clinical Specialist (ABPTS), Certified Simulation Instructor (Harvard/MIT), and Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC).

Research spans interprofessional education innovation, disability inclusion in medical training, and ICU-based pediatric care. Notable projects include the Come Roll with Me interprofessional disability awareness program and studies on learner mistreatment in healthcare training environments.

Leadership roles include serving as President of the APTA Academy of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Physical Therapy, and membership in multiple academic committees at UAB. Awards include APTA's Emerging Leader Award (2021-2022) and ACAPT's Emerging Educator Award (2022).

Teaching responsibilities include courses on physical therapy interventions, cardiopulmonary dysfunction management, and pediatric conditions. Active in curriculum development and simulation-based education initiatives.
