Dr. Ashley Lingle is a Lecturer in Conservation at the University of York's Department of Archaeology. She holds a BA in Anthropology from Tulane University, MA/MSc in Conservation from University College London, and a PhD from Cardiff University on aqueous polymers in archaeological conservation. Her work focuses on reflexive conservation practice, environmental monitoring, sustainable methods, and digital preservation strategies. She has led major projects like the Vésztő-Mágor Conservation Program (2021–present) and was Head of Conservation at Çatalhöyük (2012–2020), contributing to UNESCO World Heritage status.
Research interests include bridging material science and stakeholder perspectives, with projects integrating 3D data, GIS, and environmental monitoring. She co-authored grants for the Vésztő-Mágor program and Çatalhöyük Digital Preservation Project. Teaching includes 'Approaches to Conservation' and 'Issues in Cultural Heritage.' Active in professional service, she chairs Icon's Conferences Committee for access/inclusion and serves on IIC's Grants Committee.
Her publications span conservation pedagogy, pigment analysis at Neolithic sites, and earthen architecture preservation. Recent work emphasizes holistic strategies combining analytical innovation with community engagement, reflecting her commitment to ethical conservation decision-making frameworks.
