Ashley Hogan is the Director of Creative Writing and an Associate Professor of English at Meredith College. She holds an M.A. in literature with a concentration in creative writing from North Carolina State University (2000) and a B.A. in English and Spanish from Appalachian State University (1997). Her academic roles include directing Meredith’s Summer Writing Camps, administering the Louise Shingleton Shivers Scholarship, and advising the POETS club.
Hogan’s research and creative work focus on fiction writing, particularly character-driven narratives and adolescent experiences. She is developing a middle-grades novel and emphasizes children’s literature, parenthood, popular culture, and feminist themes. Her publications include short stories (e.g., Out of the Woods in Cold Mountain Review) and essays (e.g., Pieces in Imperfect Parent), alongside contributions to Brightleaf Review and the Momformation blog.
Her awards include top honors in writing contests at Appalachian State University and recognition from Alpha Phi Honors Fraternity. As an educator, she prioritizes empowering students’ voices through writing processes. She actively promotes Meredith’s English department, professional writing minor, and creative writing scholarships.
