Ashley Coleman Taylor is an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she conducts interdisciplinary ethnographic research on embodiment, Black genders, and Africana religions in Puerto Rico and Atlanta, Georgia.
Her scholarship employs an intersectional Black feminist framework to examine race, class, gender, and coloniality within the Puerto Rican context, with current focus on her book manuscript Majestad Negra: Race, Class, Gender and Religious Experience in the Puerto Rican Imaginary. This work analyzes how religious experiences shape cultural identity through layered systems of power and resistance.

- Finalist for the University of Illinois/National Women’s Studies Association First Book Prize
