Ashley Batts Allen

Ashley Batts Allen is an Associate Dean of Faculty and Research in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. With a PhD in Social Psychology from Duke University and prior faculty experience at the University of North Florida, she focuses on self-compassion research across diverse populations.

Research Interests center on self-compassion and its applications for older adults, sexual assault survivors, and hurricane survivors. Her work bridges social psychology, gerontology, and trauma recovery through grants from the National Institute on Aging and National Science Foundation.

Dr. Allen leads the Self, Well-Being and Social Behavior Lab, mentoring undergraduates in research that has resulted in over 70 conference presentations. Her scholarly output spans self-compassion, impression management, and social exclusion studies since 2007.
