Ashia Wilson serves as the Lister Brothers (Gordon K. ’30 and Donald K. ’34) Career Development Professor and Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), School of Engineering. She is a core faculty member of the Artificial Intelligence and Decision-making (AI+D) group within EECS.
Her research spans AI and Society, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Theory of Computation, with emphasis on ethical AI deployment and societal impacts. Wilson investigates how AI systems make critical decisions in high-stakes domains like surveillance and resource allocation, focusing on inconsistency, fairness, and human-AI collaboration.
Recent 2024 publications reveal two critical research thrusts: First, inconsistent police-contact decisions by AI in home surveillance systems using large language models; second, structured randomization techniques to enhance fairness in AI-driven resource allocation while maintaining efficiency. These studies demonstrate her commitment to addressing real-world AI governance challenges through rigorous theoretical frameworks.
Wilson actively contributes to MIT's AI+D research ecosystem, collaborating on interdisciplinary projects that bridge algorithmic theory with societal implications. Her work appears in prominent venues addressing the intersection of technical AI development and ethical deployment.
