Dr. Asha Akram is a Senior University Teacher (Lecturer) in Psychology at the University of Sheffield, recognized with the Senate Fellow Early Career Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (2017). She specializes in sleep psychology and emotion regulation research while maintaining active pedagogical scholarship.
She holds a PhD in Neuroscience and BSc in Psychology with Neuroscience from the University of Leicester. Dr. Akram teaches critical skills development across undergraduate levels and coordinates the Psychology of Sleep module.
Research Focus: Her disciplinary research examines:
- Sleep-mental health relationships
- Nightmare psychopathology
- Personality-sleep interactions
- Chronobiological factors in psychopathology
Publication Trends: Recent epidemiological studies map mental health challenges in UK student populations, particularly loneliness, insomnia, and suicidal ideation.
