Asgi T Fazleabas

Asgi T Fazleabas is a Professor and University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University (MSU), serving as Associate Chair for Research in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Biology. He is also Director of the Center for Women's Health Research and Co-Director of the Reproductive and Developmental Sciences NIH T32 Training Program and Doctoral Student Recruitment and Retention Program (DSRRP). His career spans institutions including the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he led the Center for Women's Health and Reproduction until 2009.

• Education: BS in Reproductive Physiology from California State University, Fresno; PhD in Reproductive Physiology from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Postdoctoral training in Reproductive Biology/Cell and Molecular Biology at University of Florida, Gainesville.

Fazleabas’s research focuses on maternal-fetal interactions, endometriosis pathophysiology, and decidualization mechanisms. His lab pioneered studies on chorionic gonadotropin’s role in pregnancy establishment and discovered NOTCH1 signaling’s importance in endometriosis-related progesterone resistance. Recent work integrates RNASeq/proteomics for biomarkers and nano-therapeutics for lesion targeting.

Article trends highlight NOTCH1’s role in decidualization, microRNA dysregulation in endometriosis, and translational approaches to improve pregnancy outcomes. Grants include R01 funding for NOTCH1 signaling, microRNA, endometriosis phenotyping, and pregnancy loss risk factors.
