Asfaw Beyene

Asfaw Beyene is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at San Diego State University's College of Engineering and Director of the Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. His research integrates energy efficiency and renewable energy conversion, specializing in wind/wave energy harvesting, low-grade heat recovery, and sustainable power systems.

Research focuses on aerodynamic optimization of wind turbines, thermal energy conversion, and computational modeling of renewable systems. Recent publications emphasize aerodynamic blade design, sustainable materials for energy storage, and vortex cooling technologies.

He leads major projects funded by the Department of Energy and California Energy Commission, including Industrial Assessment Centers and wave energy environmental impact studies. As Director of the Center for Renewable Energy, he oversees interdisciplinary teams developing sustainable energy solutions.
