Asa Thomas

Asa Thomas is a Research Fellow in Active Travel and Micromobility at the Centre for Transport and Society within the School of Architecture and Environment at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). His work centers on neighborhood and street-level mobility dynamics, with specialized focus on children, youth, and family travel patterns in urban environments.

Dr. Thomas's research examines socio-political dimensions of street transformations including School Street closures and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, investigating impacts on travel behavior through mixed-method approaches. Current work in the EPSRC-funded OptiWaSP project analyzes social aspects of walking to school and Walking School Buses across three UK towns, combining walk-along interviews with children, parental focus groups, and travel surveys.

He supervises MSc projects and contributes to undergraduate/postgraduate transport teaching modules while supporting rural mobility research and active travel as social prescribing initiatives. His methodological expertise spans geospatial analysis in R, mobile qualitative interviews, and survey design.
