Ary Serpa Neto is a Senior Research Fellow at the ANZIC-RC, Monash University, leading the Mechanical Ventilation Program. He holds a dual PhD from the University of São Paulo (2014) and the University of Amsterdam (2017, cum laude), and was appointed Associate Professor in Cardiopulmonology at the University of São Paulo (2019). His research focuses on mechanical ventilation, ARDS, ECMO, and clinical trial methodology, with over 330 publications and $15M+ in grants.
- Education: MD (2009), MSc (2010), two PhDs (2014/2017), Associate Professor (2019).
- Leadership roles: Head of Research at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (2017–2020), BRICNet Executive Committee member, and President of AMIB’s Mechanical Ventilation Committee (2018–2020).
Research interests emphasize optimizing ventilation strategies, ARDS management, and ECMO efficacy, with global collaborations. He leads major trials like SODA-BIC (NHMRC $1.9M) and contributes to platforms like RECOMMEND. Awards include recognition as a top global expert in mechanical ventilation and critical care (ExpertScape).
Over 50 clinical doctors and 10+ graduate students supervised, with expertise in medical education and capacity-building across Brazil, Australia, and Europe.
