Arwin van Buuren

Arwin van Buuren is a Full Professor of Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) and Director of the Department of Public Administration and Sociology. He leads the Erasmus Governance Design Studio and GovLab010, a collaboration with Rotterdam to address governance challenges. He also oversees EUR’s strategic initiatives on societal impact and impact-driven education. His research focuses on governance design, co-creation, invitational governance, and policy innovation.

Key roles include Academic Director of GovLab010 and founder of the Governance Design Studio. His work contributes to UN SDGs related to climate action and sustainable cities. He advises governments and lectures professionally, emphasizing practical policy solutions. Notable projects include integrating blue-green infrastructure and evaluating citizens’ initiatives’ public value.

He received the 2019 Erasmus Graduate School Award for PhD Excellence. His recent articles explore boundary spanning in policy adoption, design thinking in public sectors, and urban living labs. He actively participates in policy networks and editorial roles, such as editing the International Journal of Water Resources Development since 2015.
