Dr. Arwen Tyler serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Food Science and Nutrition within the Faculty of Environment at the University of Leeds. She joined the institution in September 2016 as a University Academic Fellow and Group Leader after completing postdoctoral research and fellowship roles at Imperial College London.
Her academic credentials include the following qualifications:
- PhD
- MRes
- MSci
Dr. Tyler's research centers on lipid self-assembly dynamics and biomolecular interactions from a soft condensed matter perspective, developing engineering principles for biomedical applications through lipid nanocarrier design. Her work emphasizes structural control of lipid phases using stimuli-responsive systems and time-resolved probing of dynamic transitions.
Her experimental approach combines X-ray and neutron scattering with fluorescence spectroscopy, cryo-TEM, DSC, DLS, and solid-state NMR to analyze equilibrium and non-equilibrium phase behavior. Key focus areas include lipid nanoparticle engineering for bioactive delivery and high-pressure/pH-triggered structural kinetics.
Scientific Awards: No awards were documented in the source material.
She leads four active research groups: Food Colloids and Processing, Food Colloids and Soft Matter at Interfaces, Novel Food Design and Processing, and Digestion and Delivery. Current PhD opportunities include EPSRC-funded research on AI-optimized eco-friendly skincare formulations and artificial cell membrane engineering.
