Arvind Santhanakrishnan is an Associate Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University, holding the Carol M. Leonard Professorship. He specializes in biofluid mechanics, bio-inspired design, and fluid-structure interaction. His research focuses on biological systems like jellyfish, insects, and crustaceans, exploring propulsion mechanisms, vortex dynamics, and medical device innovation.
Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (University of Kentucky, 2007); B.E. in Mechanical Engineering (Bharathidasan University, 2002). He teaches advanced fluid dynamics and experimental methods.
Research interests include metachronal coordination in aquatic locomotion, bristled wing aerodynamics, and biomedical device testing. His work bridges engineering and biology, with applications in renewable energy (e.g., wind turbines) and medical technology.
Awards include the Carroll M. Leonard Fellowship (2018) and Outstanding Faculty Award (2017). His recent publications analyze propulsion systems, vortex interactions, and jellyfish fluid dynamics.
Labs/Teams: Active in fluid dynamics experimentation and bio-inspired robotics development. Collaborates on projects like the KIDS pediatric dialysis device and blowhole flow simulation for marine mammals.
