Arvid Lindh is an Associate Professor of Sociology and researcher at the Institute for Social Research (SOFI) at Stockholm University. He is affiliated with the Social Policy (SOCPOL) research group, which focuses on comparative studies of welfare states and their effects on individuals and society. His work often employs quantitative methods and international comparative perspectives.
Dr. Lindh completed his dissertation "Attitudes towards the Market and the Welfare State" at Umeå University in 2014. His educational background has prepared him for extensive research in political sociology and welfare state analysis.
Dr. Lindh's research focuses on comparative political sociology and welfare research, with particular attention to class dynamics, social networks, economic inequality, and climate change impacts on social policy. He examines how people's perceptions and living conditions differ across countries, often through cross-national comparative frameworks. His work bridges theoretical perspectives from modernization theory and welfare-state institutional approaches to understand complex social phenomena.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend toward analyzing the intersection of traditional welfare state concerns with emerging challenges like climate change and digital transformation. There's a clear emphasis on understanding how social networks mediate class-based political attitudes and how environmental policies interact with social protection systems. His methodological approach consistently emphasizes rigorous quantitative analysis of cross-national survey data.
Dr. Lindh is actively involved in the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP), particularly contributing to modules on social inequality and the role of government. His research projects address critical contemporary issues including social optimism during structural transformation, welfare state responses to climate change, and the relationship between class position and support for populist right-wing parties.
