Arun Advani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS). He serves as Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Taxation (CenTax) and has affiliations with the International Inequalities Institute at LSE, CAGE, CESifo, and IZA. He is an active contributor to public policy discourse, serving as Editor of the International Tax and Public Finance (Policy Watch section), Associate Editor of Fiscal Studies, and member of the Editorial Board of the Economics Observatory.
His research centers on tax compliance, tax design, and inequality, with a particular focus on high-income and high-wealth individuals. He also investigates migration of the super-rich, environmental taxation, and tax issues in low- and middle-income countries. He is a Commissioner at the Wealth Tax Commission and co-chairs the Discover Economics campaign to promote diversity in the economics profession.
His recent publications (2023–2025) analyze top income and wealth measurement, tax evasion, the impacts of tax audits, and behavioural responses to wealth taxation. These works often employ rigorous empirical methods and large-scale data to inform policy debates on inequality and fiscal reform. His research has been cited by HMRC and the Office for Statistics Regulation and widely covered in media outlets such as the FT, The Times, and The Guardian.
