Arturo Magidin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette since 2005. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley (1998) under George M. Bergman, and a Matemático degree from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (1993). Prior to his current position, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor (2002–2003) and Adjunct Assistant Professor (2003–2005) at the University of Montana. He became Graduate Coordinator in the Mathematics Department in 2012.
His research focuses on group theory, particularly finite p-groups, nilpotent groups, and general algebra. Key areas include closure operators on subgroup lattices, capability of groups, and collaborations on Chermak-Delgado lattice generalizations. His work bridges general algebra and group theory, with recent emphasis on algebraic closure operators and subgroup lattice structures.
Magidin teaches advanced courses such as Math 666 (Topics in Algebra II). His publications span group theory, algebraic structures, and number theory, with contributions to journals like Comm. Algebra and Publ. Math. Debrecen. He actively collaborates with researchers like Martha Kilpack and Luise-Charlotte Kappe.
