Artur Kroschel

Artur Kroschel is a University Professor and Head of the Department of Composition at the Academy of Music named after I.J. Paderewski in Poznań, where he has been employed since at least 2016. His academic career includes a doctorate from the Academy of Music in Wrocław (2008) and a higher doctorate (habilitatus) from the Academy of Music in Krakow (2015).

Professor Kroschel specializes in contemporary composition with a focus on innovative techniques across various ensembles. His research interests encompass modern compositional methods, 20th/21st century music theory, and Polish contemporary music traditions. His creative output demonstrates particular expertise in chamber music, orchestral works, vocal compositions, and experimental forms that push the boundaries of traditional composition.

Kroschel's extensive compositional output shows consistent evolution toward more complex ensemble configurations while maintaining distinctive Polish contemporary music characteristics. His works from 2016-2018 demonstrate increasing sophistication in handling diverse instrumental combinations, from unconventional duos like viola-double bass to complex orchestral textures. A notable trend is his exploration of timbral possibilities across different instrument families, particularly in woodwind and string writing.

Professor Kroschel serves as Artistic Director of the International Festival of Contemporary Music 'Poznań Spring Music Festival' since 2011 and is Vice-President of the Poznań Branch of the Polish Composers' Union. He is the co-founder of Sepia Ensemble, which specializes in contemporary music performance. His teaching portfolio includes composition, composition basics, 20th/21st century composition techniques, and contemporary music literature. He has served as a juror for composition competitions in Poland and Germany, contributing significantly to the development of emerging composers.
