Artie McCarthy is an Assistant Professor in Global Studies at the University of Canberra, affiliated with the Arts & Communication school. He holds a PhD in Anthropology from the Australian National University (2011–2016). His research focuses on children’s participation in development, biomedical discourses in global health, and ethical pedagogies in higher education. Key contributions include the 2017 ASAA John Legge Prize-winning thesis on children and NGOs in Delhi, India, and a forthcoming Routledge book on child narratives in development.

Research Interests: McCarthy explores how children navigate development paradigms through participatory methods, critiques biomedical frameworks like 'stunting,' and develops pedagogies that prioritize care in neoliberal academic settings. His work bridges anthropology, global studies, and ethics, often using auto-ethnographic approaches.
Projects & Grants: Co-Investigator in the AllOffBall project (2022–present), examining LGBTQ+ inclusion in football communities through participatory methods. His research has been supported by grants from the National Library of Australia and others.
Labs/Teams: Engaged with the University of Canberra’s Global Studies research cluster and collaborates internationally on child-centric development studies.
