Arthur McCalla is a Professor at Mount Saint Vincent University, cross-appointed between the Departments of History and Philosophy/Religious Studies. He holds a B.A. (Hons.) from Queen’s University, an M.A.R. from Yale University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Prior to joining MSVU in 2004, he taught at the University of Toronto and Reed College.

Research Interests: McCalla’s work focuses on intellectual history, examining how historical-mindedness challenged religious claims to eternal truth, particularly in 19th-century France. His research spans philosophy of history, historiography of religion, and the interplay between biblical scholarship and emerging historical sciences. He explores topics such as the status of the Bible in historical debates and the evolution of religious thought.
Teaching: He teaches courses on American religious history, history of Christianity, world religious traditions, and the history of atheism.
Publications: McCalla has authored books such as *Religion and the Post-Revolutionary Mind* (2023) and *The Creationist Debate* (2006/2013). His articles reflect his engagement with French intellectual history, religious pluralism, and the philosophy of religion.
